In spring, Washington State bubbles with bird song. And you can see a lot of birds at the Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest in May. (Check the website for dates.) Join bird experts to explore the diverse natural habitats of north-central Washington and the more than 150 bird species regularly found there. Maybe even a dainty Calliope Hummingbird, the smallest bird in North America, or a Bullock's Oriole like this one. Pre-registration is recommended for many events.

Now that it is spring, Washington State is bubbling with bird song: from Bullock’s Orioles along streams east of the Cascades [Bullock’s Oriole song] to Ruby-crowned Kinglets, nesting high in the mountains.

If you’re not likely to hear either of these rich songsters in your backyard, then all the more reason to hear and see them at the Leavenworth Spring Bird Fest. May 13th through 16th, join bird experts to explore the diverse natural habitats of north-central Washington.
More than 150 bird species are regularly found here, from the boisterous Evening Grosbeak [Evening Grosbeak call], to the charismatic Williamson’s Sapsucker [Williamson’s Sapsucker drum]. Or, the dainty Calliope Hummingbird, the smallest bird in North America. [Wing hum and call of Calliope Hummingbird]
Activities abound at the Bird Fest for young and old, experts and beginners. This year’s keynote speaker is renowned nature recordist Martyn Stewart. Here’s the song of a beautiful Lazuli Bunting, a bird native to Washington State, which Martyn recorded.
