Human events are sometimes chaotic, violent and appalling, often unpredictable. Particularly when gripped by certainty that they possess absolute truth, humans are capable of great destruction.
But human events are only part of the story. [Begin bringing in Hovhaness]
They are the surface waves and storms beneath and beyond which the enduring cycles of nature go on and will go on. The waxing and waning of the sun’s light will orchestrate miraculous transformations in the natural world. Bees will go about their orderly work reading the world in ways invisible to us.
[Calls of migrating geese]
Birds will make their courageous journeys across the continents, navigating by ancient codes and intelligences. The equinoxes will proceed to find their balance of day and night.

As Rachel Carson wrote: “Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of the birds…There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature…”
